WASH and Environment
One of the core areas of AAK’s interventions is environment protection and WASH in which we focus on making the society clean and green.

Through our interventions, we develop toilet facilities for needy rural communities. We focus on community participation and ownership in the construction of toilets. Our efforts are aimed at improving public health, ensuring access to clean water, and fostering sustainable environmental practices.
We do programs that focus on the construction of safe drinking water sources, installation of handwashing stations, promotion of hygienic practices, and behavior change communication campaigns. Hygiene awareness sessions are regularly conducted in schools and communities, emphasizing handwashing with soap, menstrual hygiene management, and safe sanitation practices. The organization also supports the construction of household and school toilets to eliminate open defecation.
In the area of environmental protection, we undertake activities such as afforestation, plantation, and awareness drives on plastic reduction and climate change. Community-based initiatives are promoted for climate-resilient practices and the use of eco-friendly alternatives. We also collaborate with local stakeholders and government bodies to promote policies that support sustainable development and environmental conservation. Through its integrated approach to WASH and environmental protection, the AAK aims to create healthier communities and a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
AAK has worked intensively on improving sanitation and making villages open defecation free (ODF), with a particular focus on marginalized sections of the community. In the Hallia block of Mirzapur district, four villages—Mavai Kala, Hallia, Naugavan, and Sarhara—were declared ODF, with a total of 695 toilets constructed. Similarly, in the Manda block of Prayagraj district, 220 toilets were constructed in the village of Dhanaval Khas, leading to its ODF status.
