Child Rights
AAK is committed to upholding the rights of every child, including their survival, development, protection, and participation.

Developing a child-safe environment is the core of our interventions. We believe that children are not just the future, but they are individuals with rights today. Millions of children are vulnerable and exposed to multiple risks, including violence, exploitation, poverty, and neglect. As per UDISEPlus data, 47.44 million children aged 6-17 years were out of school in the FY 2024-25. Apart from this, there are many uncounted out-of-school children in the country. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of out-of-school children (784,000) who need attending and mainstreaming support.
AAK works with children, tracks out-of-school children, and mainstreams them in formal school. For this, we provide supportive classes in the form of Mohalla Classes and mainstream them in formal schooling. We work with the school management committee (SMC) and parents to make them aware about the importance of education for their children. Care support, nutrition, health, and protection of children remain our focus of intervention.
Our work on child rights focuses on:
- Formation of Child Collective, through which we engage children on their rights and develop their leadership. We develop children as prepared learners who can grasp taught lessons in the school and actively participate in all activities. They are supported in raising their concerns to different levels and getting them resolved.
- Creating an enabling, child-friendly environment in the village and school where they can learn and grow properly. For this, we organize training sessions for parents, children, teachers, and panchayat members. The collaborative effort of parents, teachers, and panchayats is supportive in creating an enabling environment for children.
- Organizing health camps for children in the school and panchayat by engaging with field-level health workers and Anganwadi.
- Creating a child-safe environment in the panchayats for which we develop child protection committees and develop the capacity of Bal Samooh on child protection and child rights.
